Anugraha Drishtidaan in commemorating the Baba Sasheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, 2026. In line with this occasion, we organized an Eye Check-up and Spectacles/ Medicine Distribution Camp at Parliament Street, New Delhi. Ambedkar Jayanti 2026 Celebrations
Ambedkar Jayanti was celebrated nationwide and abroad on Sunday, April 14. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Parliament House, where numerous dignitaries also honored Baba Sahab at his statue. Members from various social organizations and political parties collectively remembered the ‘Architect of the Indian Constitution’ on this significant day, reflecting on his profound thoughts and ideologies.
2. Nationwide Observance
The Ambedkar 'Janmotsav' Samiti spearheaded celebrations across the country with vibrant processions and 'shobhayatras'. This year’s celebrations featured floats and jhankis representing diverse regional cultures. The processions prominently addressed themes such as women’s rights, the fight against superstitions, and the ‘Save the Daughter’ campaign. Across India, people organized a multitude of programs in honor of Dr. Ambedkar, garlanding his statues and pledging to uphold his teachings. Approximately 100,000 attendees visited Parliament Street to partake in the festivities.
3. Significance of Ambedkar Jayanti
Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated with immense enthusiasm to honor Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's enduring contributions to the marginalized sections of Indian society. Born on April 14, 1891, he is widely recognized as the father of the Indian Constitution and a staunch advocate for human rights.
Dr. Ambedkar founded the “Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha” in 1923, focusing on the importance of education and the socio-economic upliftment of the underprivileged. His rallying cry, “Educate-Agitate-Organize,” aimed at eradicating casteism and promoting equality.
He notably led the 1927 march at Mahad, Maharashtra, advocating for the equal rights of the untouchables, who were denied access to public resources. His active participation in the temple entry movement in Nashik in 1930 exemplified his commitment to social justice. His tenure as a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council in 1942 allowed him to influence critical legal reforms for the rights of the lower classes.
Dr. Ambedkar's contributions to fundamental rights and state policy directives in the Indian Constitution were monumental. He worked tirelessly to secure social freedom, equality, and the eradication of un touch ability, upholding the ideals of justice and equity until his last days. He was honoured with the Bharat Ratan in April 1990, recognizing his invaluable contributions to society.
Eye Screening and Spectacles Distribution Details
On April 14, 2026, we organized a Netra Shivir at Parliament Street ( Jayanti Mela) to celebrate the legacy of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The Mela featured approximately 200 stalls set up by various organizations, showcasing their messages and initiatives aligned with Baba Sahab’s vision. Numerous social organizations, including government departments and public sector undertakings, highlighted their social work activities.
In collaboration with the ONGC All India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, ‘Anugraha Drishtidaan’ coordinated the Netra Shivir. We ensured provisions for tents, seating arrangements, drinking water, refreshments etc. for the patients and their companions. Apart from patients, a number of dignitaries visited our stall which including senior officials of Govt. and PSUs. Our medical team comprised of an ophthalmologist, two optometrists, and several dedicated volunteers. Despite the overwhelming attendance, we efficiently managed patients’ examinations in an organized manner, conducting assessments in groups of 25, with care taken to provide comforts. Camp continued till 4.00 PM.
5. Outcomes of the Camp
During the camp, our team examined 795 patients, providing 602 individuals with spectacles for low vision. Additionally, we distributed over 590 medical drops to patients.
6. Inauguration of the Shivir
The Netra Shivir was inaugurated by Shri Dayanand, Chairman of the All India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association. Their presence encouraged our team for the initiative undertaken by ‘Anugraha Drishtidaan’ with the support of ONGC.
This inaugural event marked our great initiative, and we are proud to report its tremendous success. We are grateful to ONGC for the opportunity given to us to serve the underprivileged sector society.
